Core Aeration

Core aerating can be done in spring and/or fall and pulls many cores or "plugs" from the turf.  The benefits for this are threefold:

  1. Allows water, oxygen, and nutrients direct access to the plant's root system

  2. Relieves compaction caused by mowers

  3. Topdresses by depositing the plugs on top of the ground to dissolve

Lawn Rolling

Lawn rolling is exactly what it sounds like.  Running a heavy roller back and forth across the lawn to flatten out bumps, frost heaves and gopher tunnels, leaving a smooth surface.

Rolling obviously causes compaction, therefore, it is recommended to follow up with core aeration.
